Subsequent to several sexual misconduct allegations levelled against Neil Gaiman, the creator of the Netflix's The Sandman, the makers have confirmed that the series will be cancelled after the second season.

However, this development will not impact the second season's release, planned later in 2025.

In an official statement, the series' showrunner Allan Heinberg said The Sandman was only focused on Dream's story and its material was enough only for one more season. He thanked the streamer for "bringing the team all back together" and for providing the time and resources to make a faithful adaptation that has been made to "surprise and delight" the comics' loyal readers.

It is worth noting, Gaiman, owing to the same allegations, stepped down from Amazon's final season of Good Omens.

The second season, based on the comic's "Season of Mists" follows the immortals trying to pursue Morpheus or Dream (Tom Sturridge) to give them the key of the Hell, which was given to Dream after Lucifer (Gwendoline Christie) relinquishes his power.

Joining for Season 2, directed by Jamie Childs, are Barry Sloane as “The Prodigal,” Ann Skelly as Nuala, Adrian Lester as Destiny, Steve Coogan as the voice of Barnabas the dog, Ruairi O’Connor as Orpheus, Laurence O’Fuarain as Thor, Jack Gleeson as Puck, Indya Moore as Wanda, Freddie Fox as Loki, Esmé Creed-Miles as Delirium, Douglas Booth as Cluracan and Clive Russell as Odin, .

The returning cast from Season 1 are Patton Oswalt, Christie, Vivienne Acheampong, Ferdinand Kingsley, Jenna Coleman, Asim Chaudhry, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Vanesu Samunyai, Stephen Fry and Razane Jammal.
