Alongside Chris Hemsworth's Thor, his adopted sibling Loki (Tom Hiddleston) is also coming back to Avengers: Doomsday. In a recent interview with GQ, Hiddleston revealed that he wrapped his portions for the film, directed by the Russo Brothers. Calling it a 'monumental' project, the actor said that he found the film's central story 'absolutely brilliant' and that the plot surprised him the first time he read it. Speaking about the story, the actor shared, "It just has never been done before." Hiddleston also revealed that his character continues his pursuit of the "glorious purpose" he found in the finale of the Loki series' second season. For the uninitiated, in the said season, Loki turns into God of Stories and keeps endless branching realities together to protect the whole multiverse, thus finding a new sense of purpose to his existence.
Hiddleston plays Loki in Thor and its sequels Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok, The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Besides Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth, Avengers: Doomsday stars Robert Downey Jr as Doctor Doom, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, Vanessa Kirby as Susan Storm, Florence Pugh as Yelena, and Paul Rudd as Ant-Man. The film is also introducing X-Men characters into the Avengers canon, such as Charles Xavier / Professor X (Patrick Stewart), Nightcrawler (Alan Cumming), Cyclops (James Marsden), Beast (Kelsey Grammer), Magento (Ian McKellen), and Mystique (Rebecca Romijn).
The Russo Brothers directorial is slated for a December 18, 2026, release in theatres. The directors are also helming Avengers: Secret Wars, which is scheduled for a December 17, 2027, release in theatres.
