Two characters from the original Star Trek series is the latest addition to the world of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Thomas Jane will portray the role of Dr Leonard McCoy, famously known as Bones, with Kai Murakami set to play Hikaru Sulu, for the fifth season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, reported Variety.
First appearing in Star Trek: The Original Series, which was created by Gene Roddenberry, Bones is the chief medical officer of the USS Enterprise, and Sulu is the helmsman of the ship. DeForest Kelley essayed the role of Bones in The Original Series, meanwhile George Takei portrayed Sulu.
Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Meyers serve as the co-showrunners for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. They also serve as executive producers along with star Anson Mount and Rod Roddenberry.
Jane,who has previously portrayed The Punisher in the 2004 film of the same name, was recently alongside Mark Wahlberg and LaKeith Stanfield in Play Dirty. Meanwhile Murakami is making his small screen debut with the show.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is set ten years before the events of The Original Series and follows the crew of the USS Enterprise, in their adventures through different worlds.
The cast of the series also includes Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, Jess Bush, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding, Melissa Navia, Babs Olusanmokun and Martin Quinn.
The third season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds was released in 2025 and is currently streaming on JioHotstar. The fourth season is set to premiere in 2026. The series will end with the fifth season.
