Rising young actor Jacobi Jupe has been cast alongside Scarlett Johansson in the next feature set within The Exorcist universe, with filmmaker Mike Flanagan attached as writer and director. Rather than continuing the storyline from The Exorcist: Believer, the upcoming project is being positioned as a completely new chapter within the long-running horror franchise.
The film is being mounted by a collaboration between Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, Morgan Creek Entertainment and Flanagan’s Red Room Pictures. Flanagan is producing the film in addition to directing and writing it, with Alexandra Magistro executive producing for Red Room. Jason Blum is producing for Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, where Ryan Turek serves as executive producer, while David Robinson is producing on behalf of Morgan Creek.
Production is slated to begin next year, with New York confirmed as the primary shooting location.
Jupe has been gaining attention following his leading role in Hamnet, directed by Chloé Zhao, where he starred opposite Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal. The film debuted at the 2025 Telluride Film Festival, and Jupe’s performance earned him a Critics Choice Award nomination in the Best Young Actor category.
His recent work also includes a key role alongside Billy Crystal in Apple TV+'s psychological thriller miniseries Before. Film audiences may recognise him as Michael Darling in David Lowery’s Peter Pan and Wendy. On television, Jupe has appeared in Britannia, created by Jez and Tom Butterworth, and he also headlines the musical podcast Cupid, created by Katy Cavanagh-Jupe and produced by QCode and Double Garage Films.
