Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio talked about filmmaking and each other's creative process for Time magazine the other day. Scorsese stated that collaborating with DiCaprio reignited his enjoyment "something in cinema". On the other hand, DiCaprio praised Scorsese's trust in his actors' instinctive interpretation of their characters, calling it a "revolutionary" skill. Scorsese drew a parallel with Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo and his creative collaboration with DiCaprio. "You take a film like Vertigo, the plot, if you just read the plot, it is absurd. But why do you keep watching it? There is something else going on, and we are looking for that something else constantly. It is very hard to find a partner that could do that with you," the legendary filmmaker said.
Scorsese also shared that he has been "very fortunate" to be able to collaborate with DiCaprio. The actor and the filmmaker are collaborating on another project, a film adaptation of Erik Larson's book The Devil in the White City. Besides The Aviatar, they worked together on films such as Gangs of New York, The Departed, Shutter Island, The Wolf of Wall Street, and Killers of the Flower Moon. The legendary director-actor duo also collaborated on the 2015 short film The Audition, also starring the filmmaker's frequent collaborator Robert De Niro.
