Screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna is embracing the surge of excitement surrounding The Devil Wears Prada 2, as eager fans and photographers swarm filming locations for a glimpse of the returning cast. With Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci all reprising their iconic roles, and director David Frankel back at the helm, the buzz around the sequel has reached new heights since the studio revealed its official first look at Hathaway’s Andy Sachs this July.
Reflecting on the intense fan attention, McKenna shared that such enthusiasm is a privilege, not a problem. “People will stand outside just for a glimpse of these actors and these characters that they love because seeing them in wardrobe has really excited people, especially since it’s a fashion movie,” she explained.
While some might worry about plot or costume spoilers, McKenna sees the visibility as proof of enduring affection for the story: “We knew there would be a lot of interest. I personally hadn’t experienced this level of people coming out [to the set], but it’s the world we live in. In many ways, we’re speaking to a different world than we did in 2006.”
She continued, “It stems from, like, a legitimate desire to see these characters again. As long as everyone’s safe, what an honour that people are still interested.”
The highly anticipated sequel will reportedly see Streep’s Miranda Priestly grappling with changes in a crumbling magazine industry, facing off against Blunt’s character, now a powerful luxury executive whose advertising clout Miranda desperately needs.
