3 Body Problem season two begins production; adds a Game of Thrones actor to cast
The resistance against the San-Ti is gaining traction as the cast of 3 Body Problem is expanding, with Alfie Allen, David Yip, and Jordan Sunshine. Netflix also announced that the series began production for its second season.
The series is based on Liu Cixin's novel The Three-Body Problem, which is the first among Cixin's Remembrance of Earth's Past trilogy. In the 1960s, during the time of China's Cultural Revolution, a woman named Ye Wenjie Tseng made a decision that influence space-time until the effects are felt until the present day. Now, a group of scientists called the Oxford Five team up with an unnamed clandestine intelligence agency to form a resistance against the San-Ti aliens, which will invade Earth 400 years from the present.
The title of the series is from a concept in physics which is used to calculate the individual motions of celestial body.
Allen, Yip, and Sunshine join Claudia Doumit and Ellie de Lange, who recently joined the cast for the second season. Allen has appeared in projects like Game of Thrones, John Wick, Jojo Rabbit, and SAS: Rogue Heroes. Meanwhile Yip has appeared in Indian Jones and the Temple of Doom and Pennyworth, which is based on the early adventures of Alfred Pennyworth, Batman's butler.
The rest of the cast of 3 Body Problem includes Jovan Adepo, Liam Cunningham, Eiza Gonzalez, Jess Hong, Marlo Kelly, John Bradley, Rosalind Chao, Zine Tseng, Alex Sharp, Sameer Usmani, Benedict Wong, and Jonathan Pryce.
The team backing 3 Body Problem include some known names Brad Pitt, Rosamund Pike, and director Rian Johnson, who serve as executive producers. Ram Bergman, Bernadette Caulfield, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Qi Lin, Nina Rodrigue, Robie Uniacke, Jilong Zhao. Plan B, T-Street, and Primitive Steak are behind the series.
