The past remembers, as well as continues to haunt. The first trailer for Sony Pictures' I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel picks up years after the first incident where a new group of friends face similar nightmares after evading an horrific accident that they inadvertently cause. As death knocks on the doors of each of these five friends, they are desperate to find a solution to put an end to it. Directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, the much-anticipated sequel hits theatres on July 18.

The cast features Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, Jonah Hauer-King, Lola Tung, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Austin Nichols, Joshua Orpin and Gabbriette. Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt reprise their roles as Ray Bronson and Julie James from the original 1997 film.

The plotline reads, "When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences. A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer…and is hell-bent on revenge. As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to two survivors of the legendary Southport Massacre of 1997 for help."

The script has been co-written by Robinson and Sam Lansky, based on an earlier draft by Leah McKendrick. Neal Moritz is producing the sequel.

The original film revolved around four friends (played by Prinze Jr., Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Ryan Phillippe) who are terrorised by a hook-wielding stalker after a tragic accident in their seaside town. Based loosely on Lois Duncan's novel, the success of the film led to the 1998 sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. A third film, I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (2006), was a stand-alone installment with a different storyline and cast.
