Lucasfilm has announced an expansion of its Star Wars: Visions anthology with an anime series, Star Wars: Visions – The Ninth Jedi, slated to premiere on JioHotstar next year. The announcement occurred at the Star Wars Celebration event, where Lucasfilm also offered a first look at the third season, Volume 3, in the animation anthology. This upcoming season, debuting on October 29, 2025, will feature sequels to many of the series’ best-known shorts, thus marking a new direction for it.
Notably, The Ninth Jedi, a fan-favourite character from Volume 1 of Star Wars: Visions, will see a continuation. A new short titled The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope will appear in Volume 3, further developing the arc of Lah Kara with her beginning to readily take up her part in reviving the Jedi Order. This short is set to bridge the narrative gap between the original short and the forthcoming series, but it will not be its direct beginning.
Star Wars: Visions – The Ninth Jedi will delve deeper into the mythology established in the original short, offering an expanded exploration of kyber crystals and unique Jedi lore within this Star Wars universe interpretation. The series will revolve around Lah Kara's ongoing quest to find her father and her efforts to unite the scattered Jedi. Kara remains outside of the Star Wars universe, but the series will expand on the compelling world that caused the initial short to be very popular.
Kenji Kamiyama, the creator of The Ninth Jedi, will return as supervising director for the series. Naoyoshi Shiotani will direct Child of Hope, letting Kamiyama concentrate on the development of the longer-form project.
This project signifies a substantial growth for Star Wars: Visions, which Lucasfilm started as an experimental endeavour in 2021. The initial concept offered original anime-style shorts set in alternative timelines and iterations of the Star Wars galaxy. The positive response from both Lucasfilm and fans has fueled continued support for the initiative.
Currently, the first two volumes of Star Wars: Visions are available for streaming on Disney+, with the third one scheduled for release later this year. The Ninth Jedi series will represent the franchise's first long-form anime endeavour and is anticipated to debut sometime in 2026.
