After the bumper opening for his latest film Sinners, filmmaker Ryan Coogler has revealed that he will turn his attention to his series based on The X-Files. Earlier, we reported about Coogler being in talks with The X-Files creator Chris Carter for the development of the series with new cast. In a recent interview, he told Last Podcast on the Left that it is the very next project he is planning to work on. The original series stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny in the roles of FBI agents looking into suspected paranormal activity. "Some of those episodes, if we do our jobs right, will be really f***ing scary," said Coogler about the project.
The X-Files initially ran for nine straight seasons between 1993 and 2001 before 20th Century Fox Television revived it for a further two seasons. Coogler is making the series as part of his exclusive television agreement with Walt Disney Television.
Coogler confirmed that there have not been further talks with Anderson, who he says is working on the science-fiction film Tron: Ares when they last spoke. He teased that the series will be for not just "the real X-Files fans" but also for "new ones".
