The John Madden biopic is shaping up to encompass a star-studded cast that includes actors John Mulaney, Kathryn Hahn and Sienna Miller are in negotiations to star in David O Russell’s upcoming project for Amazon MGM Studios.
Nicholas Cage is set to play the iconic coach and broadcaster while Christian Bale will portray the late Raiders owner Al Davis. If he joins the cast, Mulaney will essay Trip Hawkins who had founded EA Sports and was essential in launching the Madden NFL video games. Hahn will play Virginia, Madden's wife while Miller will play Carol, Davis' wife.
The film revolves around Madden and the unlikely path he took from being the head coach of the Oakland Raiders in the 1970s, leading the team to its first Super Bowl victory to starting the Madden NFL that went on to become the greatest broadcaster NFL has ever seen.
Filming is scheduled to start next month in Atlanta. Russel has directed, written and produced the film. Also producing the film are Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch, Jonathan Shukat, and Matthew Budman. David Bloomfield will be the executive producer.
David O Russell is known for films like Amsterdam (2022), Joy (2015), American Hustle (2013), Silver Linings Playbook (2012), The Fighter (2010), and Three Kings (1999).
Madden will be the fourth time Russel and Bale will be collaborating together after their previous films Amsterdam, American Hustle and The Fighter.
Following her hit stint with Netflix talk show Everyone’s Live with John Mulaney, Mulaney gears up to star in a film where he has the opportunity to showcase his acting provess.
Meanwhile, Hahn, who has been acting in multiple TV series from the Marvel series Agatha All Along, and was last seen in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse as Dr. Olivia "Liv" Octavius in a voice role, was recently seen in Apple TV+ series The Studio, which garnered positive reviews.
Miller, who has previously worked with noted directors like Clint Eastwood, Bennett Miller and Kevin Costner, was last seen as herself in the final season of Curb Your Enthusiasm. She is also working on the upcoming untitled Jack Ryan film.
