A new supernatural thriller, Dead Dawn, currently filming in Louisiana, promises a chilling tale of betrayal and otherworldly reckoning. Directed by Aaron Jay Rome from a Isaiah LaBorde screenplay, the film centres on a woman haunted by the vengeful spirit of her best friend, whom she accidentally killed. Go Crazy Go Mad star Ashley Lenz takes on the lead role of Anna-Beth, a single mother whose attempt to conceal her fatal mistake unravels as the deceased friend's decomposing spirit emerges as her unsettling conscience, all while authorities launch an investigation. The Hollywood Reporter first shared the news about the project.
The ensemble cast features Malcolm Goodwin (Reacher), Olivia Grace Applegate (Love and Death), David Anders (The Vampire Diaries), and Krishna Smitha (Silicon Valley). Ashley Armstrong, Grace Donaghe, and LaBorde are also part of the cast.
The film has horror and comedy elements, according to production details. It is a collaborative effort from Allaborde Entertainment and Team Vision Entertainment, with Rome, Calvin Ursin Jr, and Patrick Rowell serving as producers. Adding to his directorial workload, Rome is simultaneously helming another feature, Silt, also shooting in Louisiana. Silt features a story by Tiffany Toney and Vernon Davis.
Rome is no stranger to the screen himself, having held a recurring role in the Max limited series Love and Death, which premiered in 2023 April. It also stars Elizabeth Olsen, Jesse Plemons (who received an Emmy award nomination for it), Lily Rabe, Krysten Ritter, and Patrick Fugit.
Goodwin is recognised for his role as Oscar Finlay in the Prime Video series Reacher, alongside Alan Ritchson. His television credits also include The Fall of the House of Usher, Law and Order: Organized Crime, The Fugitive," Breakout Kings, and iZombie.
