Actor Paul Giamatti got emotional in his homage to his fellow actor Maggie Smith's passing, who co-starred with Giamatti in the Downton Abbey series.

According to Deadline, Giamatti said it was "not the same without her" and that "everybody was still acting in her spirit."

Teasing his character in the third and final installment of Downton Abbey, he said, "The interesting thing for me was that they even asked me at all because I was like, 'I don't have an important character in this story,'" as quoted by Deadline.

The three-part film follows the events of Downton Abbey (2019) and Downton Abbey: New Era (2022), which is based on the critically acclaimed TV series that was six seasons long.

The star cast of Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale includes Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Raquel Cassidy, Hugh Bonneville, Brendan Coyle, Michelle Dockery, Kevin Doyle, Michael Fox, Robert James-Collier, Allen Leech, Phyllis Logan, Elizabeth McGovern, Sophie McShera, Joanne Froggatt, Paul Giamatti, Harry Hadden-Paton, Arty Froushan, Joely Richardson, Lesley Nicol, Alessandro Nivola, Simon Russell Beale, Dominic West, Penelope Wilton, Paul Copley, and Douglas Reith.
