The teaser for Maria, the critically acclaimed film that stars Angelina Jolie as the famous opera singer Maria Callas, was unveiled on Thursday. The biographical psychological drama is helmed by Pablo Larrain and written by Steven Knight.

The teaser starts by showing Maria Callas (Jolie) on a stage with a pianist who asks her what she wants to sing today. We then see several glimpses of the singer's life in black-and-white and colour, suggesting that her journey was not without challenges. Then, we come back to the first scene, where Maria says, "Not today" and walks down the stage without singing.

Maria is based on true events and tells the story of Maria Callas, one of the world's greatest opera singers. The film explores her tumultuous and tragic life, reimagined during her final days in Paris in the 1970s, as she grapples with her identity and legacy.

The cast of Maria also includes Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher, Haluk Bilginer, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Valeria Golino. Netflix secured the film soon after winning a bidding war with at least one major distributor in the lead-up to the Venice Film Festival.

Maria is produced by Juan de Dios Larrain for Fabula, Jonas Dornbach for Komplizen Film, and Lorenzo Mieli for The Apartment, a Fremantle Company. FilmNation Entertainment will handle worldwide sales for Maria. While the film will be released in US theatres on November 27, it is slated for a Netflix premiere on December 11.
