Taika Waititi's show Time Bandits, starring Lisa Kudrow in an important role, released on Apple TV+ on August 21 and received mostly positive reviews from the critics. However, the streamer has cancelled the show after its single season. Viewership numbers for the series are unavailable; however, according to reports, it failed to enter Nielsen’s top ten original streaming shows over the first month of its release.
Based on Terry Gilliam's 1981 film, Time Bandits follows a history enthusiast (Kal-El Tuck) as she gets into a group of thieves travelling through time as they steal previous items. Lisa Kudrow leads the show, with Tadhg Murphy, Charlyne Yi, Rune Temte and Roger Jean Nsengiyumva making up the other main cast members.
Waititi created the ten-episode-long show with Iain Morris and Jemaine Clement on the basis of Gilliam and Michael Palin's characters. Ahead of the show, Waititi had said that Kudrow is his favourite comic actor in the world. He added, "The cast is great, and the plot deals with concepts such as time travel and quantum leaps. But it also has jokes."
