History was made and several records were broken at the 76th Emmy Awards. One among them was Liza Colon-Zayas's Emmy win. She has become the first Latina actor to win the award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Comedy Series for her role in The Bear.

She was nominated alongside Meryl Streep (Only Murders in the Building), Sheryl Lee Ralph and Janelle James (Abbott Elementary), Carol Burnett (Palm Royale), and Hannah Einbinder (Hacks).

As the actor took to the stage, she delivered an emotional speech thanking her husband David Zayas and expressed her overwhelming feeling as she beat veteran actors like Meryl Streep and Carol Burnett to grab the award.

"Thank you to my husband David Zayas, he told me to write a speech and I didn’t because I didn’t think it would be possible," Colón-Zayas said as she accepted the Emmy award presented to her by It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia stars Kaitlin Olson and Rob McElhenney. "How, how could I have thought it would be possible to be in the presence of Meryl Streep and Carol Burnett and Janelle [James] and Sheryl Lee Ralph and Hannah [Einbinder]. I love you all from the bottom of my heart, and all the women — my mommy, thank you."

"The women who are in the same category with me, I love and admire them so much so either way I win to be considered their peers. And then if it happens, it’s epic for women and people who look like me. I’ve done something."

Colon-Zayas played the steadfast and headstrong Tina in The Bear that portrays the cutthroat world of restaurant business. She earned critical acclaim for her performance in the episode 'Napkins' from the latest third season of the show. It showed her origin story and her entry into the sandwich shop.

The actor thanked her cast members, saying, "Thank you for giving me new life with this show," and added, "And to all the Latinas who are looking at me, keep believing and vote. Vote for your rights." In her speech, she also encouraged her fellow Latinas to vote. "Thank you for giving me a new life with this show. And to all the Latinas who are looking at me, keep believing and vote. Vote for your rights," she said.

This is Colón-Zayas’s first Emmy nomination and first win. The show won four awards at the Emmys 2024 including Best Actor award for Jeremy Allen White, Best Supporting Actor for Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Best Direction for creator Christopher Storer. With these four awards, The Bear has set a new record for most wins in a single season for a comedy with 11, beating its own tally from last year when it won 10.
