Netflix unveiled another trailer for its upcoming show Monster: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story a while ago. The show hails from Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, the creators of the Monster anthology series, including Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.
According to Netflix, "It chronicles the case of the real-life brothers who were convicted in 1996 for the murders of their parents, Jose and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez. While the prosecution argued they were seeking to inherit their family fortune, the brothers claimed—and remain adamant to this day, as they serve life sentences without the possibility of parole—that their actions stemmed from a lifetime of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse at the hands of their parents."
The first trailer unfolds mainly from the children's perspectives and shows the effects of parental abuse on them, but the second one shows pretty much the same thing from the parents' view points. In the trailer, the father (Javier Bardem) hits one of his children, while the mother (Chloe Sevigny) says that she hates her kids. According to Netflix, the shows asks the question of who "the real monsters” are.
The show stars Bardem as Jose Menendez, Sevigny as Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez, Cooper Koch as Erik Menendez, Nicholas Alexander Chavez as Lyle Menendez, Nathan Lane as Dominick Dunne, and Ari Graynor as Leslie Abramson. Monster: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story is slated to premiere on Netflix on September 19.
