It was earlier reported that Sir Ian McKellen, known for playing the character of Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films, hinted at reprising his role for the upcoming films planned at Warner Bros. Now, Orlando Bloom, known for playing the elf Legolas in the franchise, also seems to have expressed interest in the same.
“Oh, man, those things are amazing. Yeah. I don’t know how they’d do it. I guess with AI you can do anything these days. But if Peter Jackson says jump, I say, ‘How high?’ I mean, he started my whole career," said Bloom to Variety when asked about coming back to LOTR.
Andy Serkis will act in and direct two LOTR films for Warner Bros. Discovery, with the working title Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, the first of which is scheduled for a 2026 release. The writers of the original LOTR trilogy, Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh, are attached to the project as the screenwriters, alongside Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou. The maker of the original trilogy, Peter Jackson, is also associated with the project as the producer. The films are reported to be shot with live action.
