Earlier, we reported that actor Will Smith is to join the cast of Sugar Bandits as the lead. The latest update is that the actor is no longer associated with the project as he has exited. The actor has reportedly quit due to scheduling conflicts.
Sugar Bandits will however continue to be produced by Will Smith and Jon Mone through Westbrook Studios, with Ryan Shimazaki overseeing the production. The film was scheduled to begin filming in the next few months, but had been stalled due to uncertainty over Smith’s on-screen commitment.
Westbrook is reportedly trying to recast for Will Smith's role and make Sugar Bandits for 2025. In the film, Will Smith was supposed to portray an ex-special forces soldier leading a covert team bent on eradicating the drug trade in Boston.
Stefano Sollima is the director of the upcoming action-thriller. Sugar Bandits is based on the screenplay and novel Devils In Exile by Chuck Hogan. Stuart Ford will produce for AGC Studios, which is funding the project entirely. 3 Arts Entertainment will be produced by Richard Abate. Sollima's partners Gina Gardini is the executive producer and Ludovico Purgatori will be co-producing.
Will Smith is known for his roles in I Am Legend, Men in Black, and Independence Day. Last seen in Bad Boys: Ride or Die, the actor currently has The Council, and Fast and Loose in the pipeline.
