For more than a year, Lionsgate Television has been developing an animation show based on Twilight, an adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s novel titled Midnight Sun. It has only been announced now, as part of the studio's plan of expanding its key franchises, which include John Wick. The animation show is billed as a reconceptualisation of the Twilight tale from the viewpoint of Edward Cullen that will provide fans with a fresh spin on the popular vampire saga.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond and Tell Me Lies fame Sinead Daly is attached as the executive producer and writer of the series. Twilight franchise creator Meyer will also executive produce the show along with Meghan Hibbett under their banner Fickle Fish Films. The Midnight Sun adaptation expands on the novel, giving depth to the character Edward that Robert Pattinson played in 2008's Twilight. Meyer’s then incomplete manuscript informed how Pattinson played the role.
