Matt Reeves, who made the 2022 superhero film The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson as the titular character, revealed that they are finishing up the script for the sequel and plan to shoot it next year. The film will see Robert Pattinson and Colin Farrell reprise their roles of Bruce Wayne and The Penguin, respectively.

In an interview with SFX magazine, Reeves said, "There are details that actually connect right into the way the next movie begins and the way that Oz enters that world as we hand the baton back to Batman, and Batman is on another case."

The director also mentioned that the sequel will "dig into the epic story about deeper corruption, and it goes into places that he couldn’t anticipate in the first one."

The film's release has been pushed to October 2, 2026, due to production delays, while the TV series The Penguin will premiere on Max on September 19. Warner Bros officially greenlit the sequel to The Batman at a CinemaCon presentation in 2022, a month after it released in theatres.

The Batman starred Pattinson as the caped crusader, who has been fighting crime in Gotham City for two years, uncovering corruption while pursuing the Riddler (played by Paul Dano), a serial killer who targets Gotham's elite.

It featured Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Wright as James Gordon, Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth.

The movie earned over USD 750 million at the global box office.
