The trailer for Hard Truths, starring Academy Award-nominated actor Marianne Jean-Baptiste, was unveiled by Bleecker Street, on Wednesday. The film comes from legendary filmmaker  Mike Leigh and also stars Michele Austin in a prominent role.

The trailer shows Pansy (Jean-Baptiste) as someone who has been hurt and insecure over the years due to discrimination and inflictions, and therefore finds it tough to take life with a pinch of salt. Her sister (Austin), on the other hand, is happy-go-lucky, although she is a single mother of two girls. How the latter teaches the former to embrace life as it comes forms the crux of Hard Truths

The official synopsis of Hard Truths reads, "Pansy is a woman wracked by fear, tormented by afflictions, and prone to raging tirades against her husband, son, and anyone who looks her way. Meanwhile, her easygoing younger sister is a single mother with a life as different from Pansy’s as their clashing temperaments - brimming with communal warmth from her salon clients and daughters alike. This expansive film from a master dramatist takes us into the intensities of kinship, duty, and the most enduring of human mysteries: that even through lifetimes of hurt and hardship, we still find ways to love those we call family."

David Webber, Tuwaine Barrett, Ani Nelson, Sophia Brown, and Jonathan Livingstone round out the cast of Hard Truths. The film is scheduled to make its debut at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival on September 6, 2024, and  also at the 72nd San Sebastián International Film Festival and the 2024 New York Film Festival.

A release date for Hard Truths is yet to be announced.
