David Fincher is set to direct a Western thriller titled Bitterroot for Netflix. Fincher, under his deal with the streaming platform, has previously directed the films Mank (2020) and The Killer (2023). He has also directed episodes of House of Cards, Mindhunter, and Love, Death & Robots, for all of which he is an executive producer. Fincher is also reportedly part of the upcoming series Squid Game: America and the Chinatown prequel at Netflix.

Bitterroot, which was formerly titled Big Hole, will be based on a script by Michael Gilio, which originally debuted as part of the 2008 Black List collection. It follows an elderly rancher whose savings get stolen, forcing him to rob banks and hunt down thieves, while his son, who happens to be the sheriff, is on his tail.

Further details about the cast and crew are awaited. Fincher, known for films like Se7en (1995), Fight Club (1999), The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008), The Social Network (2010), and Gone Girl (2014), has a signed contract with Netflix until 2027.
