An anime feature film based on the action franchise John Wick, which stars Keanu Reeves as the titular character, is in development. Chad Stahelski, who has directed the four John Wick films, said, "We can be a little bit more crazy and nutty in the anime, and we can be a lot more explicit in our storytelling and world building on the TV show. So those are exciting to us without seeming repetitive, and that’s where we’re putting our energies right now."
The film will reportedly delve into the mysterious past of John Wick, including his days as an assassin and his retirement post marraige. The franchise was created by Derek Kolstad, and the story kick starts when the legendary hitman gets drawn back into the world of crime after the murder of his dog. Starting with the first film, John Wick, in 2014, there were three sequels: John Wick: Chapter 2 in 2017, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum in 2019, and John Wick: Chapter 4 in 2023.
A spin off film, titled From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, will be released next year. Ballerina stars Ana de Armas and takes place between the third and fourth John Wick films. Another spin off film, revolving around Donnie Yen's character, Caine, has also been confirmed.
