Paramount Pictures dropped the first official trailer for Michael Gracey's Better Man’, a film based on pop singer Robbie Williams. Screenwriters Simon Gleeson and Oliver Cole's film has a monkey (with voice work by Jonno Davies) singing in place of the pop star, quite literally.
“I know what you’re thinking. What’s with the monkey? I’m Robbie Williams. I’m one of the biggest pop stars in the world. But I’ve always seen myself a little less evolved,” narrates the character in the film's trailer. It hints at a musical biopic unlike any such genre film. However, in the trailer, there is a monkey that seems straight out of the Planet of the Apes franchise in all scenes with Williams.
The trailer depicts the early life of Williams where he is portrayed as a monkey in clothes playing football. Then, it presents a clip of Williams as he performs to a packed house; only here, he is a screeching monkey.
As per the official plotline: “‘Better Man’ is based on the true story of the meteoric rise, dramatic fall, and remarkable resurgence of British pop superstar Robbie Williams, one of the greatest entertainers of all time. Under the visionary direction of Michael Gracey (‘The Greatest Showman’), the film is uniquely told from Williams’ perspective, capturing his signature wit and indomitable spirit. It follows Robbie’s journey from childhood, to being the youngest member of chart-topping boyband Take That, through to his unparalleled achievements as a record-breaking solo artist – all the while confronting the challenges that stratospheric fame and success can bring.”
Steve Pemberton, Damon Herriman, Raechelle Banno, Alison Steadman, Kate Mulvaney, Frazer Hadfield, Tom Budge, and Anthony Hayes are also part of the cast.
