Courtney B Vance to star as Zeus in Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2
Actor Courtney B Vance has stepped into Lance Reddick's shoes as Zeus in the upcoming second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Lance Reddick passed away at the age of 60 in March 2023 shortly after production wrapped on Season 1.
Upon taking the role, Vance said in a statement, "There are few moments in an actor’s career when you can honestly say that you’re about to board a series that has such a devoted fan base filled with characters beloved around the world and is based on a wildly successful book series. I know that stepping into this role of Zeus will be a memorable experience and I’ll be giving my brother, Lance Reddick, who left us way too soon, a heavenly hug."
The cast also includes Andra Day as Athena, Tamara Smart as Thalia Grace, daughter of Zeus, and Daniel Diemer as Percy’s half-brother Tyson, along with returning stars Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, Aryan Simhadri, Charlie Bushnell, and Dior Goodjohn. The new season will follow Percy, Annabeth, and Grover as they embark on an adventure inspired by The Sea of Monsters, the second book in Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. Production on Season 2 began in Vancouver in August.
The season picks up a year after Percy’s (Walker Scobell) first journey, where he returns to Camp Half-Blood to find his life in turmoil. His relationship with Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) is changing; he discovers he has a cyclops brother; Grover (Aryan Simhadri) is missing; and the camp faces an imminent threat from the forces of Kronos. Percy’s quest to restore balance will take him to the dangerous Sea of Monsters, where a hidden destiny awaits the son of Poseidon.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians is created by Rick Riordan and Jonathan E Steinberg. The latter, along with Dan Shotz, run the show. The second season will stream next year.
