Rami Malek is on a revenge spree in the first trailer for The Amateur, directed by James Hawes. The 2.24-minute-long trailer showcases Malek working for the CIA when he hears about his wife's (Rachel Brosnahan) murder. Armed with the technology from the CIA, Malek creates a new identity and goes on a hunt to find his wife's killers.
According to the official logline, "Charlie Heller (Malek) is a brilliant, but deeply introverted decoder for the CIA working out of a basement office at headquarters in Langley whose life is turned upside down when his wife is killed in a London terrorist attack. When his supervisors refuse to take action, he takes matters into his own hands, embarking on a dangerous trek across the globe to track down those responsible, his intelligence serving as the ultimate weapon for eluding his pursuers and achieving his revenge."
Even when people warn him that he is not a killer and he could eventually get in grave danger for what he is about to do, Malek is determined. "I want to face my wife's killers, look them in the eyes and balance the scales," he says.
The film also stars CaitrĂona Balfe, Jon Bernthal, Michael Stuhlbarg, Holt McCallany, Julianne Nicholson, Adrian Martinez, Danny Sapani, and Laurence Fishburne in prominent roles.
The Amateur is produced by Hutch Parker, Dan Wilson, Malek and Joel B Michaels, with JJ Hook serving as executive producer.
The film hits theatres worldwide on April 11, 2025.
