The trailer for the eighth installment of the Mission: Impossible film series, Mission: Impossible: The Final Reckoning, was dropped by the makers on Monday.
The glimpse showed that The Final Reckoning will begin from where The Dead Reckoning left off. Ethan Hunt implores the other characters to trust him for one last time and we are shown his losses, which hints that the film will flirt with themes such as accountability, redemption and the personal costs of Hunt's actions. In fact, the teaser's start is indicative of the repercussions of Ethan Hunt's action, as the line 'Our lives are not defined by any one action; our lives are the sum of our choices' is mouthed by the enigmatic Luther Scott played by Ving Rhames.
The film, directed by Christopher McQuarrie, also stars Hayley Atwell, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Pon Klementieff, and Henry Czerny.
The Final Reckoning's technical crew comprises cinematographer Fraser Taggart, editor Eddie Hamilton and music composer Lorne Balfe. The film is slated to get released on May 23, 2025, interestingly close to the release date of the first film (May 22, 1996).
