After working together on Gladiator 2, filmmaker Ridley Scott and actor Paul Mescal are set to reteam for the upcoming thriller The Dog Stars.

Mescal is in talks to star in Scott’s next film which is set to go on floors in 2025. The Dog Stars will have Scott working with Steve Asbell and 20th Century Studios.

The film is based on Peter Heller’s 2012 post-apocalyptic thriller novel of the same name and is adapted to screen by Mark L Smith. The film is set in the near future in Colorado when the world's population has been ravaged by a pandemic. A civilian pilot leads a solitary life on a deserted Colorado airfield, accompanied only by his dog and a tough ex-Marine. Despite their stark differences, the two men rely on one another to protect themselves from wandering invaders. When a mysterious transmission crackles through the radio of the pilot's 1956 Cessna, it offers a glimmer of hope for a better future, prompting the pilot to follow the fragmented signal's path.

Scott and Michael Pruss will produce for Scott Free alongside Smith and Cliff Roberts.

Ridley Scott is currently awaiting the release of his much-anticipated film Gladiator 2 where Paul Mescal stars as Lucius Verus II, the nephew of Joaquin Phoenix’s ruler Commodus from the first film. He is in negotiations to direct the studio’s untitled Bee Gees movie. Mescal and Scott are set to start production once Mescal stars on 'Broadway in A Streetcar Named Desire.'
