Lil Rel Howery, known for Get Out, is set to make his directorial debut with Haunted Heist, a comedy-horror film he’ll star in alongside Girls Trip actor Tiffany Haddish. The project is represented by The Coven, the company behind Terrifier 3’s recent box-office success.
Written by Mr. Crocket screenwriter Carl Reid, Haunted Heist follows four former friends who reunite at a seemingly ordinary house. However, one friend has a hidden agenda—he plans to rob the place and needs their help to locate a valuable antique. But things take a spooky turn as they realise the house is haunted, and the group must work together to survive the night and outsmart a pack of wild ghosts.
Production for Haunted Heist is set to start in January 2025. Howery is producing the film alongside Josh Feldman and Sean King O’Grady from Death Ground, both of whom worked on his Hulu film The Mill. Additional producers include Feras Majid Shammami and Jesse Ford from Robinwood7, while Priscilla Ross Smith and Kendall Anlian serve as executive producers. Feldman and O’Grady also recently produced Hulu’s Mr. Crocket.
This marks The Coven’s second production following their 2023 Canadian film Shadow of God, starring Mark O’Brien and Jacqueline Byers. Howery, best known for roles in Get Out, The Mill, Free Guy, and Judas and the Black Messiah, will also appear in Universal’s Dog Man and Sony’s One Of Them Days. Haddish, celebrated for her work in Girls Trip, Like a Boss, The Card Counter, and Bad Boys: Ride or Die, has previously collaborated with Howery on The Carmichael Show, Uncle Drew, and their 2023 Best Friends Comedy Tour.
