Jay Baruchel has joined the cast of Mile End Kicks, a romantic comedy by director Chandler Levack, also featuring Barbie Ferreira.
The film, set in 2011 against Montreal's indie music backdrop, centres on Grace Pine (Ferreira), a 24-year-old music critic who moves to Montreal to work on a book about Alanis Morissette’s iconic album 'Jagged Little Pill'. Her plans, however, take an unexpected turn when she gets romantically entangled with members of an indie band for whom she also serves as a publicist.
Produced by Zapruder Films and Banner House Productions, the Canadian indie Mile End Kicks, reunites Baruchel with the team behind Blackberry, the story of the once-groundbreaking smartphone developed by the tech visionaries at Research in Motion. Baruchel previously co-starred in the Matt Johnson directorial.
The cast also includes Devon Bostick, Stanley Simons, and Juliette Gariépy, with production recently wrapping in Montreal. Levack, who made her debut with I Like Movies at the Toronto Film Festival, began her career as a music and film critic before moving to directing. Mile End Kicks is also produced by Matthew Miller and Pat Kiely, with financing from XYZ Films and IPR.VC.
