The Black Phone 2 has officially begun production. Director Scott Derrickson took to his X handle to share a new image from the sets of the film and confirmed that the shooting has begun for the sequel. From the BTS picture, it looks like the director will be dropping 'the' from the title.

Details of the plot of The Black Phone 2 are under wraps. The sequel is written by C Robert Cargill and Joe Hill, the author of the short story that inspired the first film.

In the 2021 original film, Ethan Hawke played the role of The Grabber, a criminal responsible for kidnapping several children with the cruel methods he's mastered over time. The other cast members set to return include Finney (Mason Thames), Gwen (Madeleine McGraw), Terrence Shaw (Jeremy Davies), and Robin (Miguel Mora).

The sequel will also be produced by Derrickson, Cargill, and Jason Blum of Blumhouse. Joe Hill will also act as an executive producer.

The Black Phone revolves around a 13-year-old boy who is abducted by a child killer and locked in a soundproof basement in a suburban neighbourhood. This thriller turns into horror when the child starts receiving calls on a disconnected phone from the killer’s previous victims.

The Black Phone 2 hits theatres on October 17, 2025.
