Daniel Craig is aware of the popularity of the Knives Out franchise and hopes that Netflix would release the third installment titled Knives Out 3: A Knives Out Mystery in theatres for more than just a week. In an interview with Variety, the actor mentioned that Knives Out 3 deserves a wider theatrical release.
When asked if he thinks the film should play in theatres for over a week, he said, "You Know I do." He added, "Hopefully, Netflix will push it out a bit, and people will get to see it. The people I speak to — the fans, I suppose — all they want to do is take their families and go see it at the cinemas. That’s all they want to do. Hopefully, we can give them that experience."
While the first film was a theatrical release in 2019, Netflix bought the exclusive rights to the two sequels. Netflix offered a one-week theatrical run for Glass Onion in 2022, securing agreements with major theater chains like AMC Theaters, Regal Cinemas, and Cinemark to show the Knives Out sequel in 600 theaters. This remains the largest theatrical release Netflix has ever launched.
Rian Johnson, who helmed the first two films, namely Knives Out and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, has written and direct the third film.
The films follow private detective Benoit Blanc, played by Daniel Craig, as he investigates murder mysteries. Like the first two films, Wake Up Dead Man also stars an ensemble cast that includes Josh O'Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack, and Thomas Haden Church.
Wake Up Dead Man will mark a second collaboration between Craig and Scott, who have previously worked together in the James Bond film Spectre (2015).
Wake Up Dead Man is expected to premiere on the streaming platform sometime next year. The film wrapped production in August. Plot details for the upcoming film is yet to be revealed, but Johnson and Craig have teased that it is Blanc’s “most dangerous case yet.”
Johnson has also produced the film with his partner, Ram Bergman under the T-Street Pictures banner.
