Red Hour Films and Rivulet Films have announced seven new cast members for their pickleball comedy The Dink. Joining the lineup are Chloe Fineman (Saturday Night Live), Patton Oswalt (Young Adult), Aaron Chen (Fisk), Martin Kove (The Karate Kid), Chris Parnell (Rick and Morty), Christine Taylor (Dodgeball), and seven-time Grand Slam tennis champion John McEnroe (Never Have I Ever). The previously confirmed cast includes Jake Johnson, Mary Steenburgen, Ed Harris, Ben Stiller, and Andy Roddick. Directed by Josh Greenbaum (known for the upcoming Spaceballs sequel) and written by Sean Clements (Workaholics), the film has started production in Los Angeles.
The Dink centres on a down-and-out tennis player (Johnson) who must save a struggling club and earn his father’s approval by breaking a personal oath: playing pickleball.
Produced by John Lesher and Stiller under Red Hour Films, with Johnson and Rivulet’s Rob Paris and Mike Witherill also producing, the project is fully funded by Rivulet. Rick Steele of Rivulet is serving as executive producer along with Clements and Greenbaum. Tennis coach Brad Gilbert and his wife Kim are providing technical expertise for the film.
This project marks a reunion for Stiller and Rivulet following Nutcrackers, directed by David Gordon Green and starring Stiller, which premiered at TIFF and is set for a November 29 release on Hulu and Disney+.
