Mahershala Ali in talks to join the cast of new Jurassic World film

Actor Mahershala Ali is in negotiations to board the cast of the next installment in the Jurassic World franchise.

If the deal goes through, Ali will feature alongside Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo and Rupert Friend in the film.

According to the makers, this project will mark the beginning of a fresh storyline in the three-decade-old franchise, but details regarding the plot are unknown. The production for the film is set to start mid-June in London.

While the film is fourth in the Jurrasic World franchise, it is seventh including the Jurassic Park trilogy by Steven Spielberg. Jurassic World was set 22 years after the Jurassic Park events. The new trilogy took off at 2015 after Spielberg made Jurassic Park III in 2001.

The film helmed by Gareth Edwards, will mark the return of screenwriter David Koeep who penned the script of Jurassic Park (1993) and its sequel Jurassic Park: The Lost World (1997).

Spielberg will executive produce the new instalment through Amblin Entertainment. Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley who bankrolled the modern Jurassic franchise, will produce through Kennedy-Marshall.  Universal’s executive VP of production development Sara Scott and creative executive of production development Jacqueline Garell will oversee the project for the studio.

Universal Pictures has set a theatrical release for the film on July 2, 2025.

Mahershala Ali won Oscars for starring in Barry Jenkins’ Moonlight in 2017 and then again in 2019 for Peter Farrelly’s Oscar-winning Green Book. In 2023, he voiced a notable character in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and played one of the leads in Sam Esmail's Leave the World Behind for Netflix.
