Sandra Hüller joins Ryan Gosling in Project Hail Mary film adaptation
Sandra Hüller, who recently earned an Oscars 2024 nomination for her role in Anatomy of a Fall, will reportedly feature in the big screen adaptation of Andy Weir's novel Project Hail Mary.
Sources told Deadline, Hüller will join The Fall Guy star Ryan Gosling in the film from Amazon MGM Studios.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, known for 22 Jump Street films and The Lego Movie, will direct the movie from a script by Drew Goddard. Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Aditya Sood are producing the film. Author Weir will also be involved in a producing capacity. Greig Fraser who was the director of photography for both Dune films, and The Batman, will crank the camera for Project Hail Mary which will be shot in IMAX.
According to the makers, the film is about a middle school science teacher Ryland Grace (Gosling) who wakes up on a spaceship with no memory of who he is or how he got there. He must figure out how to complete his mission to save Earth from an astronomical catastrophe completely alone, until he meets a mysterious alien who has traveled light years to save his own species from the same fate. The film is based on Andy Weir’s novel of the same name. His 2011 novel The Martian was adapted as a film in 2015.
Details about Hüller's role and information about the rest of the cast is currently under wraps. However, it is rumoured that she would take on the role of Eva Stratt, the former ESA employee tasked with spearheading the project to save humanity.
The film is scheduled to hit theatres worldwide on March 20, 2026. Executive producers include Lucy Kitada and Nikki Baida via Lord Miller; Goddard; Sarah Esberg; Ken Kao; and Patty Whitcher.
