It's not good news for the makers of Furiosa, as the post-apocalyptic film is struggling in the financial end of affairs.
According to reports, the prequel to Fury Road has trudged to a mere $58.9 million from over 70 territories. The film, mounted on a budget of $168 million, is trailing behind Sony's animated feature The Garfield Movie, which raked around $25 million over the weekend and is expected to cross $30 million on Monday on the occasion of Memorial Day in the US. With a ticket sales of $91.9 million since its release, the animated film is on course to reach $100 million in no time.
If things don't improve for Furiosa, it would turn a bad successor to Mad Max: Fury Road, starring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron. The 2015 film grossed $380 million globally. The lull Furiosa is facing at the box-office has opened a debate on social media as to why the film is struggling despite managing to expand its fan base beyond older male moviegoers.
