Earlier, we reported that Mel Gibson is making his directorial comeback with a film titled Flight Risk, starring Mark Wahlberg in the lead role. Now, Lionsgate has set a release date for the film. It will hit theatres on October 18, 2024.

Scripted by Jared Rosenberg, Flight Risk also stars Topher Grace and Michelle Dockery. The film, which will be distributed by Lionsgate, reunites Wahlberg and Gibson after 2022's Father Stu. Billed as an 'aviation thriller', it stars Wahlberg as a hitman for the mob who deceitfully becomes the pilot of a flight that carries a federal informant (Grace) and an Air Marshal (Dockery). Wahlberg told Collider Interviews that, with Flight Risk, he is playing a 'bad guy' for the first time since 1996's Fear.

Flight Risk marks the comeback of Gibson to the director's chair after 2016's Hacksaw Ridge. John Fox, John Davis, and Gibson produced the film under the Davis Entertainment banner, alongside Bruce Davey.

Wahlberg's upcoming films include The Union, opposite Halle Berry, and Play Dirty with Rosa Salazar. On the other hand, Gibson will next feature in Boneyard and Boys of Summer as an actor, as well as The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection as a writer-director.
