Jamie Bacon, Pradeep Khadka team up for Pradeep Shahi's sci-fi film Eklo

Actors Jamie Bacon and Pradeep Khadka are all set to star in the upcoming sci-fi flick Eklo which will be helmed by British-Nepalese director Pradeep Shahi.

Best known for 1915: Legend of the Gurkhas which was released last year, the filmmaker is currently at Cannes with his latest film, The Last Ritual.

According to Deadline, Shahi's directorial will be the first science fiction film to come out of Nepal.

The story is set in a "futuristic version of Earth in which a deadly viral epidemic forced humanity to flee the planet in 2030. Sixty years later, British space agency astronaut Zach (Bacon) is on a reconnaissance missions and crash-lands in the Himalayan region of Nepal with his partner. Together, they explore their surroundings and uncover a hidden city of caves in the mountains where they spot a mysterious figure (Khadka), who is the mythical guardian of the Himalayan region.

Apart from acting, Bacon will also produce the film. The director and actor are aiming to build a connection with the Nepalese and the British film industries, hoping to put Nepal in the spotlight as a strong shooting location in Asia.

Bacon is known for his role in Netflix series White Lines and a supporting role in Steven Cookson feature film Brighton. He has also worked in The Hoarded and the BBC show Father Brown. Up next, he has Mr Loverman which is scheduled to debut at Tribeca Film Festival next month. He also also completed filming for Dreamers, which is Joy Gharoro-Akpojotor’s debut feature.

Pradeep Khadka, who broke out with the romantic film Prem Geet in 2015, last starred in the third instalment of the same film in 2022 which became the first Nepalese film to secure a country-wide release in India and was distributed worldwide.
