Shogun second and third seasons in development at Hulu, FX

Earlier this May, we reported about Shōgun potentially returning for a second season after its star-producer Hiroyuki Sanada entered a deal with FX for a role reprisal from season one. Now, it is confirmed that Hulu and FX plan to develop not just one but rather two more seasons for Shōgun, a series adaptation of James Clavell’s eponymous book. While it was developed as a limited series on its initial release on Disney+ Hotstar, FX is joining hands with Clavell for a further two seasons. The makers are opening a writers room soon to determine how to extend it beyond Clavell's novel. The signing of creatives will determine exactly how it will pan out in the future.

Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks's Shōgun follows Cosmo Jarvis’s English sailor John Blackthorne, who becomes involved in the nitty-gritty of feudal Japanese politics following a shipwreck. It also stars Sanada as Lord Yoshii Toranaga.
