
A third Downtown Abbey film is officially in production with Julian Fellowes returning to write the film after creating the critically acclaimed TV show. Along with him, Simon Curtis is wearing the director's hat again after helming the 2022 sequel Downton Abbey: A New Era.
Paul Giamatti, who recently received an Oscar nomination for his role in Alexander Payne’s The Holdovers, is reprising his role as Cora Grantham’s brother Harold Levinson.
Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Phyllis Logan, Robert James-Collier, Joanne Froggatt, Allen Leech, Penelope Wilton, Lesley Nicol, Michael Fox, Raquel Cassidy, Brendan Coyle, Kevin Doyle, Harry Hadden-Paton, Sophie McShera, and Douglas Reith return for the third film. New additions to the cast are Joely Richardson, Alessandro Nivola, Simon Russell Beale and Arty Froushan. Dominic West will also reprise his role as Guy Dexter from the second film. The makers have not divulged details regarding the plot of the film.
The successful British historical drama series first aired in 2010 and ran for six seasons till 2015. The first two films Downtown Abbey and Downtown Abbey: The New Era, were released in 2019 and 2022 respectively and was a commercial success at the box office.
Downtown Abbey 3 is a Carnival Films production, with Focus Features and Universal Pictures International distributing. The film is produced by Gareth Neame, Julian Fellowes and Liz Trubridge.
