Mahershala Ali and Tom Hardy have signed on to lead 77 Blackout. The film is described to be a crime thriller. Cary Joji Fukunaga, best known for Sin Nombre (2009) and No Time to Die (2021) is directing this film.
The story follows a group of five corrupt cops, in 1977, who devise a scheme to loot three criminal hubs—the Hong Kong Triads, the Italian Mafia, and the Harlem Mob—simultaneously. As a city-wide blackout descends on the night of the heist, they must traverse a chaotic urban maze. Years of exploitation and discontent push each member to grapple with their ethical boundaries in a gritty tale of moral reckoning amidst the darkness.
Charles Roven, known for producing Oppenheimer (2023), is bankrolling this film along with Madison Weireter for Atlas Entertainment, and William Green and Aaron Ginsburg for The Cut. Frank John Hughes is attached to writing the script with revisions made by Fukunaga.
