David Callaham, best known as the scenarist of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, is attached as the writer for the next film in the MonsterVerse franchise featuring Godzilla and Kong, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The news comes hot on the heels of the successful box-office run of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, the fifth film in the Warner Bros. franchise. The success of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and its predecessor Godzilla vs. Kong has made Legendary want to have these films' director Adam Wingard comeback to helm the next instalment in the franchise as well. However, it is worth noting that Wingard and Legendary are yet to have arrive at a deal and that the filmmaker is attached to A24's next titled Onslaught.
Coming to Callaham, he is not new to the films with Godzilla. He wrote the story and first draft of Godzilla, the 2014 film that began the aforesaid franchise. His other credits include The Expendables, Wonder Woman 1984, Mortal Kombat, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. He is also writing Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse alongside Christopher Miller and Phil Lord.
