Inside Out 2 screenwriter Dave Holstein: Love to introduce visual language for teenagers

Inside Out 2 opens in Indian theatres on 14 June

As makers of the sequel to Academy-Award winning Pixar film Inside Out's release, an exciting addition to the film has been announced.

The makers have said that a concept of 'belief system' will be added to Riley's mind. The first film won applause for anthropomorphising human emotions by presenting imagery of ‘core memories’, ‘trains of thought’, and ‘memory islands’.

Shedding light on the concept and its importance as Riley will be in teenage years, Inside Out 2's screenwriter Dave Holstein says, "It felt like the first movie was about memories, and there was something quite emotional for me in finding a way to show beliefs as we get older. Our beliefs certainly solidify as we get older. Maybe we hadn't seen them before, not because they didn't exist, but because now is a time when beliefs start to become of a different level of importance to you."

Explaining about the emotional pathways, he adds, “It felt like the first movie was about memories, and there was something quite emotional for me in finding a way to show beliefs as we get older. Our beliefs certainly solidify as we get older. Maybe we hadn't seen them before, not because they didn't exist, but because now is a time when beliefs start to become of a different level of importance to you.”

Holstein adds that he will love to bring a visual language to teenagers like in the first film and "make that time a little better."

Inside Out 2 features an expanded team of emotions, set against the backdrop of protagonist ‘Riley’s’ mind. The film is directed by Kelsey Mann and stars a stellar cast that includes Amy Poehler, Maya Hawke, Phyllis Smith, Lewis Black, Ayo Edibiri, and Kaitlyn Dias in pivotal roles.

Inside Out 2 opens in Indian theatres on 14 June.
