Disney's Bob Iger to limit Marvel output

Following talks of "superhero fatigue" and high-profile misses, Disney CEO Bob Iger said the company will limit its Marvel movie output to two-three "good films", and will also cut the franchise's TV series spinoffs from four to two shows a year.

Iger said the focus has shifted from quantity to quality after analysing the quarterly numbers.

Despite favouring the balance between sequels and originals, Iger observes that sequels require less efforts during marketing of a film. “There’s a lot of value in sequels,” he adds, saying there was a time when original films made in animation were dominating the industry, but the audience are leaning towards sequels.

On the plans ahead for Disney, Inside Out 2 is slated for a theatrical release on June 14, while Toy Story 5 is planned for a 2026 release. With regards to its Marvel calendar, Deadpool & Wolverine is set to release on July 26, 2024 and Thunderbolts on May, 2025.
