The Maze Runner reboot is in works with Jack Paglen set to script the film

The original production team including Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Lee Stollman, Wyck Godfrey, and Marty Bowen, are returning to produce the reboot

A decade after The Maze Runner Trilogy was launched, 20th Century Studios is developing a reboot of The Maze Runner franchise which ran from 2014 to 2018.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jack Paglen, best known for writing the Johnny Depp-starring sci-fi movie Transcendence, is roped in to pen the script for a new installment. He has also worked on Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant and served as co-producer on Netflix’s comic book adaptation The Magic Order from Lindsey Anderson Beer.

The original production team including Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Lee Stollman, Wyck Godfrey, and Marty Bowen, are returning to produce the reboot. Additionally, Wes Ball, who directed the original trilogy, will be involved as a producer.

According to reports, the reboot is is not a redo of the story nor is it a direct sequel to the original trilogy, which starred Dylan O’Brien and Kaya Scodelario. It is expected to be a continuation of the story which will also have elements that made the first movie connect with its audience.

Based on the dystopian YA book series by James Dashner, The Maze Runner takes place in a post-apocalyptic world, where a group of young survivors must navigate deadly mazes, treacherous landscapes, and sinister organizations as they uncover the truth about their past and fight for their freedom. The second film, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials was released in 2015 and the third Maze Runner: The Death Cure was released in 2018.
