A documentary adaptation of author-filmmaker Mathew Klickstein's book See You at San Diego: An Oral History of Comic-Con, Fandom, and the Triumph of Geek Culture is in the works. Oscar Boyson and David Permut are producing the documentary film about the origin story of San Diego Comic-Con. The makers plan on assigning the project to a filmmaker with the same passion for its story as them.

It follows a group of youngsters in the 1960s as they team up with a comic admirer to develop the pop culture event. In the recent past, the Guinness Book of World Records has acknowledged it as the world's largest gathering of pop culture enthusiasts.

“This is the quintessential underdog story — young fanboys and fangirls filled with their passion and dreams — that mushroomed into the birth of what evolved into a global phenomenon,” said producer Permut.

Writer-director Boyson's production credits include titles such as Heaven Knows What, Good Time, Uncut Gems, Funny Pages, and Chillin Island.
