Kinds of Kindness Trailer: Emma Stone reunites with Yorgos Lanthimos in a triptych fable

We had earlier reported that director Yorgos Lanthimos and actor Emma Stone are set to join hands once again with their next collaboration, Kinds of Kindness following the success of their recent film Poor Things.

Searchlight Pictures has released the first trailer for the film. Although we cannot deduce much from the video which shows few glimpses of the lead characters, the promises another wacky ride akin to Poor Things. We see a body being dragged through a dimly lit corridor, Margaret Qualley’s slap on Jesse Plemons’ face and Hunter Schafer performing a ritual in an examination room. Emma Stone drives a purple car and the trailer ends with her voice posing the question, “Isn’t it beautiful?”.

The sci-fi anthology film stars Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn, Mamoudou Athie and Hunter Schafer. Dafoe and Qualley are also reuniting with the filmmaker following their collaboration on Poor Things.

The official synopsis of the 'triptych fable' follows, "a man without a choice who tries to take control of his life; a policeman who is alarmed that his wife who was missing-at-sea has returned and seems a different person; and a woman determined to find a specific someone with a special ability, who is destined to become a prodigious spiritual leader.”

Lanthimos penned the screenplay of the film, which was originally titled And, with Efthimis Filippou, with whom he co-wrote the dark thrillers and absurdist comedies, The Lobster, Killing of a Sacred Deer and Dogtooth.

The film, which will be distributed by Searchlight Pictures, is scheduled to hit theatres on June 21.
