Eight months after its global release, Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer will finally be screened in Japan.

The film about the life of theoretical physicist J Robert Oppenheimer who is called the "father of the atomic bomb", is scheduled to be released on March 29 in Japan.

This announcement invited brickbats from several centres of Japan as the film would assert America's defense of needing an atomic bomb for its self defence.

Former Hiroshama Mayor Takashi Hiraoka, after screening of the film last week in the city's Hatchoza theater, said, "The film had the process of creating the atomic bomb, but from Hiroshima's standpoint, the horror of nuclear weapons was not sufficiently depicted."

The film starring Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr and Emily Blunt went on to win Oscars under seven categories including Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Picture and Best Director.
