Jeffrey Wright joins Denzel Washington in Spike Lee's High and Low

We had earlier reported that Denzel Washington and Spike Lee are joining hands once again for a thriller film titled High and Low. It has now been announced that actor Jeffrey Wright has joined the cast of the film.

The film, which starts production this month, is a collaboration between Apple Original Films and A24.

High and Low is a reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa's 1963 crime thriller film, in the English language. The film revolves around a Yokohama shoe company executive, who finds himself in a dangerous situation when his chauffeur's son is mistakenly kidnapped and held for ransom. It is still unclear whether High and Low is an exact reinterpretation of the original film.

High and Low, written by Alan Fox and Lee, will be produced by Todd Black for Escape Artists and Jason Michael Berman for Mandalay Pictures. Lee will serve as executive producer under his 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks banner, apart from directing.

A24 will give the film a theatrical release before its global launch of Apple TV+. A release date is yet to be announced.

This film will be the fifth collaboration between Washington and Lee, their most recent partnership being Inside Man in 2006. They previously teamed up on iconic films like Malcolm X, He Got Game, and Mo' Better Blues. While interest in this project sparked last spring, it was initially delayed due to strikes from writers and actors, which halted production on Washington's Gladiator sequel. Now, with those issues resolved, High and Low have moved to the forefront for both Oscar winners.
